Carrier Oils & Butters

All Ingredients To Die For carrier oils (vegetable oils) are cold pressed, and food grade, unless otherwise indicated in the description. We do not believe in the use of solvent extracted, nor hydrogenated oils, as these products may contain residual solvent or other unidentifiable components, which we believe jeopardize their therapeutic value.

Though these carrier oils (vegetable oils) are food grade oils, they are not intended for consumption. No product offered through Ingredients To Die For is intended for consumption. All products are for topical use in personal careproducts only.

All carrier oils (vegetable oils) should be stored, and handled, to avoid exposure to light, air and heat as much as possible. Carrier Oils do not spoil. They are subject to rancidity due to oxidationOxidation is caused by air, light and heat.

  • We recommend that you transfer to a small working bottle to work out of when you buy the more exotic, and therefore less stable, carrier oils (vegetable oils) in large quantity. In that way you can prevent the constant exposure to air as you open the bottle for repeated use.
  • When pouring carrier oils (vegetable oils) from the bottle it will help to wipe the rim with alcohol to prevent the buildup of oils on the rim, which will quickly oxidize, if not removed thoroughly. For best results use a pipette to remove oil from the more fragile oil bottles, to avoid oxidation on the rim.
  • Do not store them under refrigeration, unless otherwise directed, as this will cause a drastic temperature variation from the product to the outside air, when removed for use, and will cause condensation inside the bottle, which is introducing water. If this happens you will be subjecting your carrier oils (vegetable oils) to the culprits that attack water, which are bacteria, mold and fungus, and may reduce the shelf life.
  • For a greener environmental impact our carrier oils (vegetable oils) are shipped in natural HDPE plastic. For protection from light we recommend that you cover the entire bottle with a dark, non transparent, label.
  • Never touch the lip of the bottle to anything that you are pouring into as you will be contaminating the bottle, and then the carrier oil, with whatever may be on the other surface.

All butters should be handled, and stored, with the same, preventative, care that you would use for your carrier oils (vegetable oils) or any other precious material as they are just as fragile.

All Ingredients To Die For butters are gently refined unless otherwise indicated in the name / description.

  • As we know that excessive, and repeated exposure to, heat is damaging to the quality, of the butters, we do not heat them to pour them into jars for shipping. All of our butters are scraped, shaved or scooped, as needed to package them into jars, without applying heat. Because of this practice butters will always be packed into a container that is, roughly twice the size, of the melted butter. This means that if you order 16oz (1lb) of shea butter it will be packed into a 32oz (2lb) container as it requires twice the space. We would rather spend a little more for the package, in this case, than jeopardize the integrity, and quality, of the butter. If you receive your butters in a warmed condition, due to transit, the container will appear to be less than full. This is normal, and expected, as they are packaged by weight, not by volume. Butters can melt during summer months during transit.
  • Due to the minimal processing of our pure and natural botanical materials, including oils and butters, there may occasionally be some plant material (sediment) that is missed by the filtration system. Any butters, and especially Mango, may contain this plant material. This will look like dark grit which will settle to the bottom of the container as the butter cools. This only need to be filtered to remove it during use. We will always do our best to catch this and filter further to remove the sediment however, because of our policy to avoid heat we will not do this as a routine procedure. As this is the nature of pure and natural products we do not make any guarantee that any botanical materials will be free of plant material as most botanical materials are only filtered to remove solids when they are minimally processed and that is how we like our botanical materials to be processed.

We think you'll find that our carrier oils (vegetable oils) and butters, are of the highest quality and will appreciate the steps that we have taken to make sure that we deliver the value that you expect from us. Our customers are always telling us how much theylove our Shea Butter, for instance, because it's smooth and creamy, when solid, never gritty. Both Ingredients To Die For Shea Butter's are co-op sourced from W. Africa.
