NatureCide - Aspen Bark Extract

NatureCide (Aspen Bark Extract), is a powdered extract from the bark of the Aspen tree. It is a 100%, natural, preservative* alternative. Being very high in natural salicylates (salicylic acid), traditionally used as analgesics, these salicylates may also be isolated and applied to cosmetic and personal care products as part of your natural preservation system, with the added benefit of pore refinement and acne control.

The salicylates naturally present in NatureCide (Aspen Bark Extract) are consistently isolated at between 54.0 and 60.0% which makes NatureCide (Aspen Bark Extract) an ideal natural alternative to Salicylic Acid where it offers the added benefit of helping with your product preservation while it will also offer a smooth feel to the skin. NatureCide (Aspen Bark Extract) does not challenge the stability, or viscosity, of your emulsions. This is one of the easiest natural preservative* alternatives to substitute. All you need do is add it to the water phase of your emulsions.

GUIDELINES

• incorporate at or below 140F
• broad pH stability, between 3.0 and 9.0
• add to water phase prior to heating
• 1.5 to 3.5%*

Tech Tip: You may find it easier to work with NatureCide if you create a vortex, in your water or liquid, and add the powder to the vortex, for thorough mixing, prior to adding the remainder of your water phase ingredients.

CAUTION :: As with all of the acids, it is important to let your skin acclimate to their use. For those whose skin is not used to the acids a slight stinging and redness may result. If this occurs, reduce usage to every other day for 2 weeks, before resuming daily application. If irritation persists, discontinue use. If you experience anything more than a slight stinging, or redness, discontinue use immediately. Any time that you experience discomfort, you can apply a 10% solution of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to neutralize the acid, then wash with soap and water to thoroughly remove any acid residue. If irritation develops, or persists, seek medical advise.
