Tetrasodium EDTA, now available in powder form, is one of the most versatile, and widely used, chelating agents. Often utilized in personal care products to control metal ions across a very broad pH range. Tetrasodium EDTA functions by bonding to metal ions, and inactivating them, to prevent deterioration of the product, which also prevents the metal ions from depositing onto the skin and hair. In personal care products, these agents improve: effectiveness, stability, hard water performance, rinseability, clarity, fragrance integrity, and shelf life of formulations. Tetrasodium EDTA can also be used to neutralize Carbomer, or raise the pH of personal care formulations.
Please see the PDF for information on Tetrasodium EDTA chelant capability in order to determine the quantity required for your application. Selecting the quantity is too product dependent for us to list a usage amount, though typical usage is 0.2 to 0.5%, with 0.2% being effective in most applications, in personal care products.
Please call, or email, us if you need assistance in identifying the ions that need chelating, or in calculating the quantity of Tetrasodium EDTA.
